They say you see a light at the end of the tunnel

I saw a light at the end of a barrel

A bullet hole through my windshield

From a young man donning Nike apparel

We’re closer to death than we think

I dove to the ground as I heard shots fly

But alhamdulilah for everything

Another day of living as it wasn’t my time

You’re not the first to make mistakes

Nor will you be the last

The future is unpredictable

So we focus on the past

With hopes that we can take things back

We can’t relive those moments 

Armed with words this is our resolve

A nation of unknown poets

If I don’t find you in this world

I hope to find you in hereafter 

Your stay in my book of life has been short 

But it has been my favourite chapter

Just as you feel shadowed by the darkness of your transgressions

Does the moon seem dim in the presence of the sun

You will still shine in the darkest of moments

And illuminate the night sky until daylight comes

All my life I’ve had to fight

Ive put up with with my curses

I’ve tucked away emotion 

I’m fluent in what hurt is

I’ve chose to keep it to myself 

I’ve barely scratched the surface

My only option for restitution 

Is to turn my pain to verses

And surely in remembrance

We shall find peace 

And surely in defiance

Shall we face defeat

The worlds burning down around us,

And a wars going on outside,

And the battles we hold within ourselves 

Just seem to multiply

We ask all of the questions

But the answers are not our truths

But what are we to do?

The list of all my summed regrets

Is about as big as Everest

A list of things I never said

But should’ve said

Nonetheless

And now I sit here and reflect

Upon these thoughts still in my head

That never make it to my lips

And will not til the day I’m dead

Sometimes we love

Sometimes we lose

But when push comes to shove

you have to choose you

She said she wanted peace of mind

She said she want a piece of mine

She knew that love would leave her blind

But she still took the time to try

And now I write these words to you

The only thing that I hold true

I hate it had to happen too

But heartbreak always comes in twos
